There are some stories that linger in our hearts long after we close the pages or watch the credits roll. The NeverEnding Story is one of them for me. The journey through imagination, courage, and the power of belief has always stood apart from other stories.
Crafting the Magic: The Making of My Automata
Bringing a story to life through automata is both a technical and artistic challenge. I wanted to create a piece that not only pays homage to the film’s iconic imagery but also evokes the wonder and nostalgia it holds for so many. Using layered wood components, intricate hand-painted details, and carefully planned mechanisms, I designed an automaton that moves with a dreamlike fluidity—almost as if lifted by the winds of Fantasia itself.
Inspiration from Fantasia
From the Gates of the Southern Oracle to the celestial presence of the Childlike Empress, The NeverEnding Story is filled with stunning visuals that lend themselves beautifully to kinetic sculpture. This automata was heavily influenced by these motifs, channeling the film’s rich aesthetic and deeper themes of hope and perseverance. The moving elements symbolize the ever-turning cycle of creativity and adventure, reflecting the very heart of the story.
The Art Behind the Movement
Beyond the mechanics, each piece was painted and assembled with intention. I focused on layering textures and incorporating subtle metallic finishes to enhance the sense of depth. Every detail, from Falkor’s gentle curves to the celestial glow of the empress’s world, was crafted to create a feeling of enchantment and movement—even when still.

Whether through automata, jewelry, or workshops, storytelling remains at the core of what I create. This NeverEnding Story-inspired piece is a testament to the way stories continue to inspire new art forms, breathing life into imagination. It’s a reminder that creativity is its own kind of magic—one that never truly ends.
